Marketing, Sales and Operations Must Work Together

The customer does not care about your org chart.

By Shimon Leizgold

One journey, three owners

Marketing generates the inquiry, sales converts it, operations delivers it — and the customer experiences all three as a single company. Every disagreement between those functions eventually surfaces as a customer problem.

Metrics that force alignment

Shared metrics do more than shared values. When all three functions are measured on completed jobs, retention and customer satisfaction — not just leads, closes and utilization — coordination becomes self-interested.

  • Cost per completed job, reviewed jointly
  • Booking rate as a shared marketing and intake number
  • Complaint and rework rate visible to all three functions

A weekly operating rhythm

A single short weekly meeting with the same agenda — demand, capacity, conversion, delivery, problems — resolves most cross-functional friction before it becomes structural.

Escalate the seam, not the person

When something goes wrong between functions, the productive question is which handoff failed. Blame allocated to individuals ends the discussion; a handoff examined honestly produces a fix.
